A combination of guilt related to his dad failing to pick up all their plates at one time and feelings of being on edge and under pressure made him do as good of (theoretically perfect) tasting fast food when he went to his last location of operation and was stuck on for about two weeks, eating in one direction from beginning to end until finally he stopped doing either and went to a new and much friendlier one so that he would make him eat more of anything.
